Plein-Air Workshop

With Scott Lloyd Anderson
A believable feeling of light is often what makes a landscape painting sing. That, and perhaps more importantly, an effective design. This workshop will emphasize the development of skills that will improve your ability to achieve that sense of light while working out in the field, and to create compositions will make your paintings get noticed. Scott brings twenty years of experience as a publication art director to the easel. He'd love to share with you his ideas about making compelling pictures.
Friday evening will be in the studio for a lecture/demonstration. Plein-air painting is so much a craft. Most important is how value achieves a sense of light. You'll see how to start a painting in the field by using a single-color underpainting to lock in the main shadow values and establish the design. How to scout and work quickly will be discussed as well.
Saturday and Sunday will be two 3-hour sessions. 9:00am to noon and 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Locations will not be far from The Atelier. Two of the four sessions will be in urban environments. Plein-air painting gear required.
Length: 3 days
Tuition: $350
