The Atelier Studio Program of Fine Art

Classes

Life Drawing & Painting I/II
Copyright © Debra Norton

Life drawing is at the core of any serious program of fine arts. In these classes, students draw from the figure in pencil, charcoal, including an option of painting. Each drawing or painting is created over a period of sessions, developing the student’s eye for accurate gesture, proportions, and anatomy. With a single sustained pose, students will have the option of either taking one drawing/painting to a high degree of finish or completing several drawings from different positions around the model.

Gestural Figure Study
Copyright © Christine Mitzuk

Breathe life into your figure drawings by building a deeper understanding of gesture. This class will mesh The Atelier and Studio Arts figure study methods. Students will explore different ways to see, understand, and capture gesture. By understanding gesture, we can incorporate a sense of life into our drawings, tell a story through body language, or exaggerate it for effect. We will be studying gesture from the nude figure. Supply list will be emailed after registration. Email cmitzuk@ gmail.com with questions. For classes with Christine, please make checks to C.M. Art Productions, LLC. (Checks to Christine Mitzuk cannot be accepted.)

Designing an Interior Painting with a Figure
Interior figure painting with wolf pelt by Andy Sjodin

Emphasis will be on the preliminary elements of composing an interior with a figure. The end goal is to understand how to think through the different elements of picture making for the fluid and successful completion of a composition that deals with a complex pictorial space. Materials needed include: black pen, pencil, charcoal, pointer, eraser, sketch pad, drawing board (12" x 16" or so), pencil or charcoal paper (12" x 16" or so), small canvases, primed boards, or watercolor paper (12" x 16" or so), and the material you need to paint (oil or watercolor).
