Our supply store carries most of these materials (with exception of watercolor supplies and hand mirrors). We sell all of the supplies needed for basic and figure classes. It will be open one hour before the first session of each class as well as during classes. You will need a separate check to pay for materials.
Kneaded eraser, plumb line (a weighted string about 24" long), masking tape, sandpaper board, 18" ruler, small hand mirror (optional).
Strathmore 2-ply drawing paper, 2H and 4H pencils, 20" x 15" drawing board (no clips), knife or razor blade.
Charcoal paper (Canson Ingres, or Strathmore), extra paper for padding, 24" x 30" drawing board (no clips), medium and hard vine charcoal, black mirror. Paint supplies will be discussed in class.
Ultramarine Blue, Viridian, Yellow Ochre, Naples Yellow, Flake White, Cadmium Red (light), Light Red, Indian Red, Alizarin Crimson, Raw Umber and Ivory Black. Students working in Black and White need only bring Ivory Black, Raw Umber and Flake White.
Plumb bob, drawing board, masking tape, pad of newsprint OR cheap white paper, charcoal (compressed or vine) OR a soft pencil (B or softer) and a pencil sharpener, kneaded eraser.
Charcoal paper (Canson Ingres, or Strathmore), extra paper for padding, 24" x 30" drawing board (no clips), medium and hard vine charcoal, black mirror. Paint supplies will be discussed in class.
Drawing board, tape, pastels (Rembrandt or whatever you have), charcoal, paper towels (Viva or Rags-in-a-Box), stiff bristle brush size 4 or 6, pastel paper (Canson neutral color and value, Wallis sandpaper white).
2H pencil, kneaded eraser, artists tape, tracing paper, Hunt 107 pen tip with holder, Higgins black india ink, Crescent #215 hot press illustration board.
Easel: French easel or tubular tripod type.
Paints: Thio violet (Grumbacher) or Permanent alizarin, French
ultramarine or ultramarine blue, Cerulean blue, cadmium
yellow, cadmium orange, cadmium red deep, white (flake, titanium, mixed or Permalba). Unless otherwise stated Winsor & Newton and Rembrandt paints are
good.
Brushes: Filberts & rounds in a bristle, 2 or 3 of each size
(#2, #4 & #6).
Panels: Canvas panels or untempered masonite with 2-3 coats of gesso
in sizes 8 x 10 and 9 x 12.
Miscellaneous: Palette cups, rags, paper towels, black mirror, Liquin,
viewfinder (2 L's), turpentine, palette knife, and a plastic bag for trash.
Notepad for first class.
Optional: Bug spray, large brimmed hat or cap, sunscreen, umbrella to
attach to easel box or freestanding with pole and stakes (for sun).
3 to 4 sheets of HP 200 Crescent Illustration Board 0.85 - 0.95 thickness, Gesso, 2 1/2" brush to gesso boards, acrylic matte varnish, 2 rolls of 1/4" artist’s tape, masking tape, Paxton palette of oil colors (will be discussed first night of class), palette knife, palette or a mixing surface, paper towels, pencil and paper for notes and calculations.
Book - The Complete Guide to Perspective by John Raynes, 12" T-square, 6" plastic triangle (having an additional, larger one is also handy), rulers (I recommend clear plastic, 12" and 18" rulers), drawing pencils, eraser, protractor, compass, paper (many drawings will be done on 8.5x11" paper, but you'll also need some larger paper such as newsprint, for some of the drawings).
Canvas and supports range from $30 to $80, paint media of choice. For starters, just bring sketch media.
Burin, scraper, etching drawing point (steel point is good), two copper plates (preferably small), two sheets of lightweight printing paper for etching (Rives, Stonehenge, etc.), three sheets of blodder paper.
Minimum 7x10 bound sketchbook; small pad of tracing paper or vellum; assorted loose-leaf toned sheets minimum 9x12 (can be cut from several larger sheets of gray Canson drawing paper); some softer graphite pencils (HB to 6B); kneaded eraser; small straightedge; assorted colored pencils including white; a single red or green extra-fine tip ink pen. Optional: simple watercolor supplies.
