The Garden

Stephan Orsak balances parallel careers as a performing violinist and visual artist, also serving as a teacher/pedagogue in both streams. Portfolio work has included paintings, drawings, graphic scores, visionary architecture, garden design, monumental sculpture and murals. As a child, he copied works in the Yelland restoration gallery in California. Much later he studied with Prix de Rome painter Arthur Osver at Washington University, and he was one of Richard Lack's final pupils at Atelier Lack. With teaching experience at three universities nationally and master classes internationally, he has been honored locally as an Outstanding Teacher at MacPhail Center for the Arts, where he continues to work regularly with young aspiring composers.
