Michael J. Frey is an award-winning portrait painter who accepts commissions primarily in the Upper Midwest region. His work explores the human emotional landscape and is found in collections throughout the United States. Born in Butte, Montana and raised at the base of the foothills in Boulder, Colorado, Michael taught human anatomy at the University of Colorado. Relocating to Minnesota in 1981, he trained as a classical realist painter with 4 years of study at The Atelier. Michael maintains a studio in Minneapolis and has been teaching drawing and painting to adults and middle school students at the Edina Art Center since 1998.
